The All-Important Four C's of Diamonds
Have you heard about the four C's of diamonds? The C's stand for:
-
Cut
-
Colour
-
Clarity
-
Carat
However, there's still more to the
diamond than the four C's. Many other factors enter into the
equation, factors that can have an enormous effect on the value of a
particular gem.
It has been said that no two diamonds
are the same, so by determining which of the four C's your and/or
your partner finds most important can help narrow the search. Some
prefer a traditional diamond, one that is clear and catches plenty of
light. In this case, the C is clarity.
Others might prefer something more
uniquely coloured. While we tend to think of diamonds as being clear
and colourless, (often called white diamonds), diamonds come in many
colors as well. Some would prefer something like yellow or pink. And
of course, there are many cuts from which to choose. You may prefer
round, radiant, princess or marquis, for example.
Others place more value on size. The
bigger the better and therefore, they're willing to spend more on the
diamond's weight, or carat, even though it may contain minor flaws.
Normally, these won't be noticeable except by a jeweler with a loupe
at one eye.
Once you've decided on the general
cut, colour, clarity and carat of the diamond for your engagement
ring, you'll still have other details to iron out. You have to
consider the setting, any embellishments and/or smaller complementary
diamonds that may accompany the crown.
The Crossroads of Marriage
Marriage is a giant step, and it
means that both parties are making a long-term commitment. Sadly,
this doesn't always work out, but one significant step a couple can
make is to seal their promise with an engagement ring.
An engagement ring can mean a number
of important things. First and foremost, it's a symbol of love and
commitment, not only for the couple involved but for all who come
into contact with them. It implies not only a promise but a reminder
of that magic moment when the couple made that life-changing decision
to join their lives together in marriage.
The decision to choose an engagement ring, is one of the biggest and most incredibly important decisions a couple can make. That in itself implies that it may well be a very intimidating and difficult decision as well.

It's likely that a couple will have
some general, if vague, idea of what sort of ring they should get,
but in the end, the decision should come down to the person who will
be gifting the ring, and of course, the partner who will be wearing
it.
There are many jewelers in a city the
size of Toronto, ON. That doesn’t mean that all jewelers are created
equal, however. In some showrooms, the selection may be more limited
than desirable. In others, the sales associate may not appear to be
as well-informed or interested as a patron might like.
For starters, let's imagine a
scenario in which you've decided to marry.
Sometimes it's love at first sight and at others, it's a love that grows and matures slowly. Since love and relationships can take many forms, it's almost certain that you'll fit in there someplace. And the engagement ring you select as a couple should reflect that relationship.
